Chavez: Bush is "The Devil"

Gotta love the kind of people the left associates themselves with.

If we had any sense we'd take him and Ahmadinejad seriously. But we seem to be sticking our heads in the sand lately.

I AM A CUBAN-AMERICAN REPUBLICAN CONSERVATIVE, WHERE DOES THE GOVERNOR STAND ON CUBA.

I am pleased to pass on a statement by Governor Romney that was prepared especially to address the issue of Cuba. Romney has been very active in speaking out on freedom for Cuba, issuing many strong, clear statements. The other Republican candidates are decent guys, but Romney is more active and is advised by experienced, though Cuba experts:

Mitt Romney on Cuba

“America Will Never Back Down to the Castro Brothers”

Governor Mitt Romney’s is firmly committed to helping the Cuban people secure their political freedom and economic opportunity. As a tool for reaching that goal, he has pledged to continue to isolate the Castro regime with economic and diplomatic sanctions.

Governor Romney has declared, “America will never back down to the Castro brothers. There will be no accommodation, no appeasement. There will be no end to our insistence that political prisoners are set free, and that Cubans themselves are finally given the privileges that today are enjoyed only by Castro's cronies, and by foreign tourists. After 50 years, with so much suffering, so much sacrifice, we will not relent until the day when the Castro brothers meet their ignominious end and their history is written among the world's most reviled despots, tyrants and frauds.”

‘America Will Never Be Intimidated’

As Governor Romney told Radio Mambi in March 2007, “There are four major points of pressure that can change any regime and particularly the regime in Cuba. First is economic pressure. It’s important for us to maintain our sanctions… The second pillar is to exert diplomatic isolation to make sure that the Castros are recognized as tyrants … The third is to communicate more effectively to the people of Cuba and the world about the human rights abuses in Cuba. … The final pillar is military strength. America must always be ready in the event of any military incursion by Castro or Chavez against the people of America. We must always be prepared so that the leaders of those countries understand that America will never be intimidated.”

“Hope And Courage” of the Cuban People: “Praise Their Work and Remain Faithful to the Their Cause”

Governor Romney recognized the courageous democrats struggling on the island, in a statement applauding the presentation of the 2007 President Medal of Freedom to to Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet. Governor Romney observed, “Biscet reminds us of the hope and courage that prevails among the Cuban people, despite the regime's best efforts to cripple them. It is hope and courage that we see in the students who ask for "CAMBIO" in the face of government-organized mobs, as well as the Ladies in White who march and pray for the liberation of their incarcerated husbands…. But never have we been as close as we are now to having a free Cuba…. Coupled with international support, efforts like these are creating the groundswell for change that even the regime cannot stop…. [T]he next President of the United States has to keep the spotlight on the regime's abuses, maintain pressure on it to grant its people freedom, and ultimately support the Cuban people when they finally have the opportunity to shape their country's future. As President, I would be honored to welcome these Cuban patriots to the people's house in Washington. In the meantime, we must praise their work and remain faithful to their cause.”

In Latin America, “Spread the truth about American freedom and Castro’s tyranny” and “Reject” Caudillos

Governor Romney is committed to improving U.S. relations in Latin America and to confronting Hugo Chavez. “We should use our world renowned media and communications savvy to spread the truth about American freedom, and Castro’s tyranny. New strong-men ('caudillos') must not reverse the Hemisphere's hard-fought economic and political freedoms. The United States and our partners in the region must continue to reject the policies of leaders such as Venezuela's Hugo Chavez that move to consolidate power, limit dissent and revert to failed socialist policies."

“We Must Help Our Friends”

Governor Romney outlined his commitment to Latin America, in a comprehensive strategy statement issued last spring, saying, “We must help our friends. Foreign aid and foreign investments must be focused on those who stand alongside us. In spite of great progress over the last few decades, tens of millions in the Western Hemisphere still live in poverty. United States aid and investment programs promote transparency and the economic and political reforms needed to spur development.”

“We Need Robust Cooperation” in the Americas

Governor Romney also declares, “We must never ignore Latin America again. It is a great deal easier to prevent a crisis than to solve one. Since the end of the Cold War and since the terror of 9/11, America has become so preoccupied with other regions that we have forgotten our friends in our own Hemisphere. We need robust cooperation to expand opportunities in the Hemisphere and address common threats such as drug trafficking and terrorism."

At The Start Of His Campaign, Governor Romney Formed A Foreign Policy Advisory Group Focused On Latin America

Governor Romney's Latin American Policy Advisory Group advises him on issues vital to America's relations with Latin America. Among these advisors are former policy makers who have proven their commitment to the cause of freedom in Cuba, including several distinguished former ambassadors and Assistant Secretaries of State.
